Old Alts (1) v Mary Dendy (0)

"On the up with two wins out of two in 2013 for Old Alts"

On the up with two wins out of two in 2013 for Old Alts who won 1-0 away at Mary Dendy with the quickest goal of the day by striker Andy Cullen after only forty one seconds. After a scrappy first half with neither goalkeeper forced to make a save of note the game came to life after Dendy centre half Nick Brunker received a second yellow from referee Ian Battersby. The game became niggly with players from both sides receiving cautions and Alts’ Paul Cook received a straight red for ill timed words to Battersby. The game itself opened up and chances were created Dean Duignan, Mike Pascall, Simon Ashe and Simon Sidderley impressed for Alts whilst keeper Rob Richards saved Alts blushes twice denying the unlucky Kyle Pirrie when he was clean through. Striker Paul Richardson and returning midfield talisman Simon Lee who came on as a second half substitute drove Dendy forward but it wasn’t enough as Dendy failed to convert and grab an equaliser which their possession undoubtedly warranted.

Old Alts Run Close by Resurgent Bulls Head

Old Alts got off to a winning start in 2013 with only their second victory of the season but bottom of the table Bulls Head pushed them all the way after falling four goals behind.
The visitors had the first chances of the match when Mark Vesty tumbled in the penalty area but the referee saw no infringement and allowed play to continue then Stuart Johnston wasted a glorious opportunity to give Bulls Head the lead.
Dale Peters and Nathan French then added insult to injury giving Alts a 2-0 lead inside twenty five minutes and Peters made it 3-0 just before the break. Second half substitute Dean Duignan made an immediate making it 4-0 minutes after coming on but remarkably that was as good as it got for the home side. With the points seemingly secured they eased off and Bulls Head took full advantage. Paul Fairweather made it 4-1 from the penalty spot before Matt Dent scored twice in quick succession to make it 4-3 with barely ten minutes remaining. At the final whistle Bulls Head just fell short and will be cursing falling four goals behind.
