Match report:
Mary Dendy let a two goal first half advantage slip for the second week
in a row as they went down 3-2 at home to Old Alts. Paul Cronshaw
headed the home side into the lead from an Ian Wood corner after only
five minutes but it was Alts who played the better football. Dendy
keeper Matt Robinson produced a stunning save to deny Simon Jackson.
As the game continued Alts dominated possession but they paid for
failing to convert their advantage into goals when six minutes before
half time Dendy doubled their lead with a stunning volley from defender
turned striker James Curbishley. He picked up a ball from Adam Taylor
twenty five yards from goal, flicked the ball up with his left foot and
let fly with his right to beat keeper Rob Richards all ends up to make
it 2-0.
Simon Jackson, making his debut for Alts made it 2-1 six minutes into
the second half but the killer blow came in the final ten minutes when
Dale Peters scored twice in 120 seconds to crush Dendy’s resolve. His
first a great diving header as the ball ricocheted off a defender and
the second a pinpoint shot through the legs of defender Gareth Worrall
and low past Matt Robinson. The final score, Mary Dendy 2 Old Alts 3,
was no more than the visitors deserved and the home side was left
wondering how they could have lost a game after playing themselves into a
winning position by half time.
