Old Alts (1) V Prestbury (2)

Old Alts also tasted defeat in a somewhat fractious match against Prestbury at Crossford Bridge. With both teams seeing chances go begging in the first half, it was Prestbury who took the lead early in the second half; Chris Powell heading home a floated free kick. Powell scored again ten minutes later showing real determination to chase down an Alts defender and see the ball ricochet from the challenge past the keeper. Dave Howard pulled a goal back with twenty five minutes remaining to make it 2-1 but Prestbury held out to go above FC Woodford and into second in the table.

"So close to the shock of the season"!

Old Alts Frighten Flyers and Prestbury Punish Mary Dendy

An astonishing game at Jim Evison Fields saw Old Alts nearly complete the shock result of the season as they just lost out to the league leaders by the odd goal in eleven! Flyers took the lead but trailed 2-1 before ending 4-2 ahead. Alts battled back to 4-4 before a frantic finale which saw the game end 6-5 to Flyers . Scott McGowan took his tally for the season to an astonishing 33 scoring five of Flyers six goals with Ben Mellor completing the scoring. For Alts both Mike Pascall and Dale Peters scored twice and Marcus Ashley added a fifth. The win keeps Flyers unbeaten record intact but only just!

Match report:

Mary Dendy let a two goal first half advantage slip for the second week in a row as they went down 3-2 at home to Old Alts. Paul Cronshaw headed the home side into the lead from an Ian Wood corner after only five minutes but it was Alts who played the better football. Dendy keeper Matt Robinson produced a stunning save to deny Simon Jackson. As the game continued Alts dominated possession but they paid for failing to convert their advantage into goals when six minutes before half time Dendy doubled their lead with a stunning volley from defender turned striker James Curbishley. He picked up a ball from Adam Taylor twenty five yards from goal, flicked the ball up with his left foot and let fly with his right to beat keeper Rob Richards all ends up to make it 2-0.

Simon Jackson, making his debut for Alts made it 2-1 six minutes into the second half but the killer blow came in the final ten minutes when Dale Peters scored twice in 120 seconds to crush Dendy’s resolve. His first a great diving header as the ball ricocheted off a defender and the second a pinpoint shot through the legs of defender Gareth Worrall and low past Matt Robinson. The final score, Mary Dendy 2 Old Alts 3, was no more than the visitors deserved and the home side was left wondering how they could have lost a game after playing themselves into a winning position by half time.

Old Alts (0) v Club AZ (2)

Match report:

Club AZ finally found the win they were looking for as they travelled to Sale to play Old Alts and came away with all three points thanks to goals from Lee Anderson and Lee Manion in each half. Old Alts defended well but offered little punch up front with one solitary effort on goal all they managed in the game. The margin could have been bigger but AZ were just happy to go home with the win as they go above Mary Dendy into fourth .

Full league report:

Prestbury Pull Back a Two Goal Deficit to Share the Points with Mary Dendy
Prestbury twice came from two goals down to earn a draw with Mary Dendy at Great Warford. Prestbury did themselves no favours as they started with nine players and soon fell two goals behind thanks to goals from Ryan Fallon and new signing from Wistaston Athletic Kyle Pirrie . The second half was a different story – Prestbury evened out the numbers and it made a huge difference. The Prestbury team is a real mixture of youth and experience and their movement and fitness really told as they ran Mary Dendy ragged in the second half. Seventeen year old Ross Jones at the back, Jack Pennington and Jordan Gregory in midfield and making his debut upfront after signing from New Mills, Jack Bannister caused all sorts of problems. Ed Price who was coerced into taking the goalkeepers jersey for the home team had little to do but performed with credit.  A Jack Bennington goal brought the deficit to one midway through the second half but eight minutes later Ryan Fallon added his second poking home from close range after Chris Shepherd’s goal bound effort had been cleared off the line following Ian Wood’s corner. This restored Dendy’s two goal lead but was scarcely warranted by their second half performance. Bannister pulled the score back to 3-2 with a great twisting volley and then secured a point from close range. A point wasn’t ideal for either club but Prestbury remain 3rd on eleven points.

Bulls Head manager Stewart Johnston was furious with his players after they rolled over in an 11- 1 mauling at the hands of his former club Poynton Nomads. The visitors had the points in the bag by half time as they led 5-0 but despite a penalty converted by Paul Fairweather in the second half it was more of the same from the visitors as they scored six more. Man of the match Dec Fletcher scored five; Jon McCartney scored four with Anthony Mape and Josh Parmitter completing the scoring. Remarkably it was Nomads first win in the league this season despite some excellent performances.

Prestbury v Old ALts match report

Another engrossing & inspiring match report for Old Alts from Matt Eagles

"Prestbury and Old Alts shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw at Mary Dendy Fields. Jordan Jackson gave the visitors the lead in the first half but John Slater equalised from the spot after a foul on Alex Rottenbury."

I'm not being funny but is he taking the p*ss! #Twat

League report:

FC Woodford & Mary Dendy Send Signals to Flyers
Mary Dendy kept their 100% league record intact with their second win of the season after an impressive 4-2 win against bogey team Poynton Nomads who they have failed to beat for nearly five seasons home or away. The victory at Bollington Rec was well deserved as they out played their hosts particularly in the second half. The game started well for the visitors as they were awarded a generous penalty after only four minutes when captain Dan Allman appeared to wrestle Ryan Fallon to the floor as he received the ball just inside the penalty area from Matty Martin’s long throw. Martin Brunker stepped up and put the ball low past keeper Dom Hadfield to give Dendy the lead. Nomads didn’t stay behind for long, Jon McCartney unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner five minutes later. Dec Fletcher made it 2-1 midway through the half as he turned defender Gareth Worrall one way then the other and fired a shot low past Matt Robinson . It was Dendy’s turn to come from behind and on twenty five minutes Ryan Fallon caught Jon Blissett in possession midway inside Nomads half and sprinted towards goal unleashing a stinging shot from 20 yards that Hadfield could only parry into the path of Joe Ragdale who gratefully poked home the equaliser.
Dendy made two changes at half time but the second half began much like the first with Dan Allman again hauling Fallon to the ground after only three minutes and referee Derek Scott awarding Dendy a second penalty. Martin Brunker looked nervous as he stepped up and put the ball way over the bar. It was perhaps poetic justice as Fallon later admitted his fall had been a little theatrical. He did however make amends on the hour mark giving Dendy a 3-2 lead with a strong run and shot that beat Dom Hadfield from twenty yards. Nomads had brought on Anthony Mape for Josh Parmitter upfront but his presence had little effect as he saw little of the ball as man of the match and Dendy captain Steve Rowlands continually broke up play in the middle of the park and he got his reward in the dying minutes with another shot from distance that fizzed past Dom Hadfield to make the final score 4-2.

FC Woodford went goal crazy and consolidated second place as they put Bulls Head Poynton to the sword in their derby game at Woodford Rec. Four goals down by half time Bulls Head gave themselves a fleeting chance of getting back in the match when Stewart Johnston curled in a spectacular effort from 25 yards to make it 4-1 but it went almost un- noticed by Woodford as they accelerated away scoring eight second half goals to record their biggest win of the season by some considerable margin. Jack Butterworth led the scoring with four, Eddie Roberts and Tom Darcy scored two a-piece and the rout was complete with goals from Alex Jackson, Scott Wright, Josh Roberts and an own goal.

Prestbury and Old Alts shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw at Mary Dendy Fields. Jordan Jackson gave the visitors the lead in the first half but John Slater equalised from the spot after a foul on Alex Rottenbury.

Torrential midweek rain put paid to all but one of this weekends ECL games and that took place in the sunshine at Crossford Bridge. The result, a 6-2 victory for FC Flyers against home side Old Alts was their fifth consecutive victory of the season.
An Adam Wilson header and a goal from captain Scott McGowan put the visitors two goals up but Old Alts pulled the game back to 2-2 by half time with goals from Dean Duignan and Jordan Jackson.
The second half belonged to Flyers. An early goal from Scott McGowan made it 3-2 and his third of the game minutes later made it 4-2. McGowan’s hat trick consisted of a header , a right foot shot and a left foot shot ,the ‘perfect hat-trick’ and evidence , in case any was needed , that he is the most dangerous and prolific striker in the league with 17 goals in just five games . Goals from Ashley Thomas and Anthony Hampson completed a dominant second half for the league leaders.

Poynton Nomads will be wondering how they didn’t come away with all three points after dominating large parts of their game against second placed Old Alts.

Training Drills part 1. Train With Manchester United: Nike Soccer

I am not sure what game the guy who wrote this match report was at, but it certainly wasn't how I saw it...

"Poynton Nomads will be wondering how they didn’t come away with all three points after dominating large parts of their game against second placed Old Alts. Surprisingly Alts led 2-0 at half time with midfielder Dean Duignan powering his way through scoring twice but Nomads new young signing Josh Parmitter got the home side back in the match with a superbly taken free kick from 25 yards early in the second half. Another new signing, possibly playing his last match for Jonny Blissett’s team before returning to university in London was Matt Stoten . He was instrumental in Nomads’ dominance and thought he had set up the winner for Jake Lodge in the final minutes after John McCartney had levelled the scores at 2-2 but with the goal gaping Lodge managed to sky the ball over the bar from four yards out when it appeared easier to score. Alts were relieved at the final whistle and remain second on four points."

A fantastic start to the season for the new look Old Alts Fc with a 7-0 win over the new look High Lane. A great all round team performance saw Old Alts dominate the game reducing High Lane to long distance shots and half chances. This has been our best start to a season in recent years and with the merger of both the Old Alts teams gelling well we have high hopes for this season.

"Old Alts had their best start to a season in many a year crushing High Lane 7-0 at Crossford Bridge. High Lane who have several players who double up playing cricket had no excuses though. The match was as good as over by half time with Alts four goals up and they added three more in the second half just for good measure. Dale Peters led the scoring with four and Dean Duignan, Mike Pascal and Paul Davidson were also on target."

All change at Old Alts.

The new season has brought some big changes at Old Alts, for the first time in recent years Old Alts A and Old Alts East have merge. The rivalry between the 2 side has been plain to see, however with the merger of the 2 side all this has been put to one side and this was nicely illustrated with a fine 5-1 win against Prestbury FC. We have been working hard during pre-season so we can be fit and ready for the start of the season.

Our first game is against High Lane, these boys are a good footballing side but are prone to the odd dodgy day. If we make the game a battle and frustrate High Lane we could start the season with a win.

Subsidiary Cup report fails to mention that the lines man (Club AZ manager) disallowed goal for Old Alts that would have made it 2-2, this changed the game and Club AZ turned up the gears and won the game.

A Full but not very accurate report below.

"Club AZ made the Sub Cup semi finals after a comfortable 5-2 victory against Old Alts A. Leading 2-0 at half time thanks to goals from Lee Anderson and Jamie Collins AZ saw their lead slip early in the second half as Dean Duignan made it 2-1 but a marvellous strike from Jon Blackburn restored their two goal advantage. Ben Rumsey gave Alts hope as he made it 3-2 but two late goals from Collins and Anderson saw AZ progress."

Brian Hillson League Cup Semi Final

Having comfortably defeated their opponents 7-0 last week High Lane could have been excused for thinking the tie was already over as they went three goals up against Old Alts A in the first half thanks to two James Williamson goals and a rare goal from centre half Matt Dunn who beat the offside trap, but how wrong they were.
Old Alts came roaring back to 2-3 thanks to goals from Dean Duignan and Dave Howard as High Lane failed to get a grip of the game and press home their advantage . Fearing the worst, High Lane’s Tony Mitchell brought on substitute Jack Gorrie who immediately made an impact scoring to make it 4-2 , his fifth goal in five games sparking jubilant scenes as players ran on the pitch to celebrate. At the final whistle Mitchell was more than relieved

“It was an ugly win but I’ll take it . Last week we controlled the game but this week Alts played well and at 2-3 the next goal was always going to be crucial”

"lightening fast Alts striker Dale Peters"

Poynton Nomads must be wondering what might have been had Stuart Johnston not missed most of the season with injury- once again he was right at the heart of all that was positive in Nomads play providing two assists , both from free-kicks and instrumental in another solid Nomads performance as they beat Old Alts A 4-1 . Jon Blissett got his fifth goal of the season from centre half as he opened the scoring, powering home a header at the far post from Johnson’s free kick but lightening fast Alts striker Dale Peters levelled the score as he raced on to a ball over the top of the home defence. Tom Gaskell then restored Nomads lead, cutting inside and drilling the ball across the Alts keeper to make it 2-1. Nish Joshi helped himself to a third goal in the second half courtesy of another Johnson assist and substitute Anthony Mape boosted his hope of a place in the starting line-up as he scored within minutes of coming on.

Cheadle Hulme close in on Club AZ.

Cheadle Hulme closed the gap on Club AZ to just four points after they game from behind to beat Poynton Nomads 2-1 at Bollington Rec., while AZ were frustrated by a waterlogged pitch preventing their crucial game against FC Flyers from going ahead. Player/Coach Jon Blissett put the home side in front with a powerful header from a corner in the first half but five minutes into the second half Cheadle were leading 2-1. First Leon Tailor’s cross was dropped by Nomads keeper Jack Gaskell and the ball crept over the line then almost immediately a long ball through the heart of the home defence should have been cleared but Mike Hooley again pounced on indecision by Gaskell and rounded the stricken keeper to give the visitors the lead. Nomads were shell shocked and with the wind against them, despite their endeavour they couldn’t muster the equaliser their play probably deserved.

against their opponents, Old Alts East, but a ferociously strong gusting wind which played havoc with any ball played in the air. John Littlefair took advantage of hesitation in the Dendy defence to fire a curling shot past Matt Robinson to make it 1-0 to the visitors after only six minutes and twelve minutes later top scorer Nick Scholes ran clear down the left wing and then scored to make it 2-0 with an audacious chip over Robinson as he raced to the edge of his penalty box to avert the danger. Two goals to the good at half time away from home would ordinarily look like a potentially winning position but Alts were far from settled during their half time team talk feeling they hadn’t done enough to take full advantage of the wind in their favour. Their fears were justified.

There followed an astonishing six minutes that saw Dendy score three times , two from Matt Morris and an extraordinary goal from full back Gareth Worrall whose punt up field from midway inside his own half somehow found its way past keeper Rob Richards and into the net via a deflection and a huge gust of wind. Midfielder Steve Rowlands made it 4-2 after turning sharply and sliding the ball under Richards despairing dive and on sixty six minutes Morris completed his hat-trick with a trademark finish to make it 5-2. Old Alts new signing and substitute Danny Davies made it 5-3 from the penalty spot but Steve Rowlands rounded off a quite tremendous second half display scoring Dendy’s sixth.

Cheadle Hulme 'Got out of jail'

Cheadle Hulme, by their own admission, played their ‘get out of jail free card against an unlucky Old Alts A side to go above FC Flyers and into second place. Trailing 3-2 with ten minutes to go they managed to steal all three points with an equaliser from Mark Alcock and a last minute winner from Mike Hooley who ran through a desperate Alts defence to chip the ball over the keeper and into the net. Earlier goals from Dale Peters and a brace from Dave Howard had put the visitors in charge and looking liker sealing a deserved victory but an own goal and a Rob Duignan strike kept Cheadle in touch before the dramatic finale.
